Kidchen Expedition — A Farm to School Cookbook

Oklahoma Farm to Schools’ primary objective is to have a website that coincides with the publication of their Farm to School Cookbook and F2S Television Programs.

CHALLENGE

This was a new initiative for the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. OPUBCO Communications Group had already worked with them to design and publish a cookbook to be used in local schools to support the healthy eating inititatives in the schools and to educate both school kitchen staff and families about healthy eating and cooking. Their all-in-one package includes print, video and online to promote this program.

SOLUTION

OPUBCO Communications Group designed the website utilizing the look and feel of the print cookbook, which we had also designed and published. When you visit the site, it’s bright and vibrant and you feel like you are looking at the cookbook. It’s enhanced with fruits and vegetables as edging around the main content area. There is a rotating banner on the homepage to feature and spotlight specific areas from within the cookbook.

The website contains a digital version of the cookbook. A school staff member or family can look up recipes from the cookbook and even download the specific recipes. There is also a download for the complete cookbook by section in PDF format. Lastly the site contains a wealth of information and resources for healthy cooking and buying from your local farms and farmers. Another important feature is the Farm to School TV. All videos shot by OPUBCO Communications Group are featured on YouTube so at anytime, they can be watched online. The website iteself, contains episodes from Show 5, the most recent video production.

We implemented a content management system called WordPress so that the staff could update the website on a regular basis to keep the information current.
